Paint is one of the most important tools available to homeowners and designers. With just a few brush strokes you can transform a space and not just make it look better, but actually increase the value of your home. Given that the investment is usually pretty low, the ROI on a good paint job is great. With that in mind, here are 5 things you can do with paint that will increase the value of your home.

Paint the Kitchen Cabinets

If your kitchen cupboards are looking a little dated and you don’t have the budget to replace them give them a fresh coat of paint (I suggest Para’s new Melamine paint). Yes, it’s a lot of work, but the good news is that it’s not actually difficult. Anyone can do it if they’re willing to put in the time and a little bit of elbow grease. If you’re not sure where to start, check out my post How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets.

Paint all the Walls a Neutral Colour

So often I hear people complain that neutral is boring, but you know what? Neutral colors can help make you money. If you want to increase the value of your home with paint there’s nothing quite so effective as painting all the walls a fresh, neutral color. It will appeal to more people than any strong color will, and it will make the room look fresh and clean. If you feel like you’re missing out on color include some with your artwork and accessories.

Paint the Trim Gloss White

Sometimes a little goes a long way. People always focus on the walls (and with good reason) but trim gets dingy and scuffed too. If you want to perk up a room but you don’t have the time or energy to paint all the walls try painting the trim a fresh, glossy white. It will give the whole room an instant pick me up.

Paint the Exterior

If you’re up for a big project consider painting the exterior of your home (if applicable). Curb appeal is hugely important and you want potential buyers to be impressed right from the start. A fresh coat of paint in an appealing neutral color is a great way to make your house look new and up-to-date.

Paint the Front Door

The front door is the focal point of your home’s exterior and you want it to look as good as it possibly can. If yours is looking a little tired and a new one isn’t in the budget, a coat of paint is a terrific option. Top it off with some stylish hardware and you’re good to go.
